Practice Areas

Stiefvater Law, LLC is the Ohio solo practice of Robert G. Stiefvater, Attorney. The office is at 8748 Brecksville Road, Suite 225, Brecksville, Ohio 44141.

This office reviews a limited number of files in five areas:

  • Personal injury
  • OVI / DUI
  • Criminal defense
  • Traffic tickets
  • Estate planning and probateLawyer in Bedford
  • >

Limited Clients. Proven Results.

Not every call is accepted. Capacity is limited on purpose so the file in front of this office is actually worked. The consultation is free. Even when a matter cannot be accepted, you will leave knowing what to look for next.

People call from Brecksville, Broadview Heights, North Royalton, Independence, Strongsville, and nearby communities. The office is in Brecksville. Cases are handled in Northeast Ohio and throughout the state.

If two problems arrived together — a crash and a citation, an arrest and a license issue, a death and a probate filing — say both on the call.

Personal Injury

A personal injury claim is a documentation problem disguised as a medical problem. You were hurt because someone else was careless. The insurer’s job is to pay as little as the file will bear. Your job is treatment. The lawyer’s job is to build a record the insurer cannot shrug off.

This office reviews motor-vehicle collisions and premises claims when the facts support the file: interstate rear-ends, left turns, lane-change impacts, parking-lot collisions, and falls on poorly kept property. Acceptance is case-by-case. There is no assembly line and no advertised verdict list.

OVI / DUI

Ohio calls it OVI. Most people still say DUI. Either way, you are dealing with a criminal charge and, in many cases, a separate administrative fight over your license. Those two tracks do not wait for each other.

OVI law is technical. The stop, the detention, the field tests, the chemical test, the implied-consent paperwork, and the prior-offense lookback each have rules. A lawyer who treats every OVI as a standard first-offense script will miss the file in front of him.

Bring the citation, any test ticket or refusal paperwork, and a written timeline of the stop. Memory fades. Video and reports do not.

Criminal Defense

A criminal charge is a state problem that becomes a life problem. Employment, professional licenses, parenting time, housing, and immigration status can all move after a plea that looked “simple” on the day you entered it.

This is not a volume plea desk. Discovery is read. Video is watched. The client is prepared. Some callers will be declined. That is the cost of doing the work correctly.

Files that commonly come in from this area include theft, domestic violence, assault, disorderly conduct, drug possession, weapons-related charges, and other misdemeanors and felonies that start with a local arrest. The label on the ticket is the beginning of the analysis, not the end.

Do not contact the alleged victim to “clear it up.” Do not talk about the facts in group chats. Call before your next date.

Traffic Tickets

A traffic ticket is not always a small problem. Points, insurance, commercial licenses, and prior records decide whether paying it is cheaper than fighting it.

Some citations are criminal. Some are minor misdemeanors. The code section on the paper controls, not the word “ticket.” Bring the citation. Deadlines on the face of the paper are real.

This office reviews speeding, marked-lanes, and other moving citations when the record and the insurance exposure make the fight worth the work. Capacity still controls.

Estate Planning and Probate

Everyone should have basic estate planning documents. Many people need more than that. This office prepares the plan after understanding how you want assets to pass — wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health-care planning — without overselling the file.

Probate is the court process that follows a death when assets must be collected and transferred. A clean plan usually reduces that burden. Ohio’s rules control who receives property when there is no will.

Client-focused preparation is the reason estate planning clients refer other clients to this office.

How this office decides whether to take a file

Attorney Robert G. Stiefvater has been licensed in Ohio since 2003. He founded Stiefvater Law, LLC in 2009 to represent individuals, not volume. Early career time on the prosecution side of Ohio practice is useful for one reason only: it shows how a file is built to be pleaded. Defense work is the opposite exercise.

Before a matter is accepted, the facts, the calendar, and the fit are reviewed. If the answer is no, you still get a free consultation so you know what to look for from the next lawyer you call.

Guarantees are not part of this practice.

Communities this office works with

The office is in Brecksville. People commonly call from:

  • Brecksville
  • Broadview Heights
  • North Royalton
  • Independence
  • Strongsville
  • Nearby Cuyahoga County and Northeast Ohio communities

Representation is not limited to the city on the letterhead. The office location does not change because the stop, the crash, the arrest, or the probate filing happened on a different road.
